WHY CHOOSE RLUS?

NON-PROFIT MAKING

RLUS is a non-profit-making company with charitable status. The company's general policy and strategy are directed by a voluntary unpaid Chair and Executive Committee, drawn from Russian departments of British universities. The company has no full-time employees. An Operations Consultant and Accountant, who are employed part-time in the interests of cost-saving, manage the day to day operation. RLUS liaises with university departments and students through departmental Liaison Officers. We send large groups of students to Russia every year and we are able to negotiate the best prices available.

ORGANISATION IN UK

RLUS has many years experience of arranging language courses in Russia and the ex Soviet Union. We will provide students through their university liaison officer with all the information they need to get to Russia. This includes providing your visa invitation and detailed up to the minute instructions for obtaining a visa. RLUS arranges insurance at competitive rates for all students.  Study in Russia arranges group flights for RLUS students on scheduled services. RLUS passes on student accommodation requirements to its partner institutions.

FLEXIBILITY

RLUS will also allow students to make their own travel or accommodation arrangements. As RLUS acts as an agent for your university, all we ask is for your university liaison officer to confirm that they are happy for you to make your own arrangements, as RLUS cannot be held responsible for anything that may result from arrangements that RLUS has not made.

ACCOMMODATION

RLUS does not arrange accommodation. However, all RLUS course providers in Russia to provide accommodation and RLUS will pass your accommodation requests on to the course organisers in |Russia. This accommodation is carefully selected and safety is a major concern. For those choosing homestay accommodation we will endeavour to find suitable accommodation for vegetarians, non-smokers, for students who like/dislike pets, children, etc. A few centres also offer accommodation in a hall of residence. Each course provider will give information about the accommodation available and the estimated costs.

SUPPORT IN RUSSIA

RLUS is the only British organisation to maintain student representatives providing on-going student support for the duration of the students’ course in Russia. The representatives are employed by Language Link. They combine providing pastoral care for RLUS students with teaching or administrative work. In an emergency they are available to provide student support where needed 24/7. They meet students when they arrive and brief them on their course and their accommodation. They will make sure that students are correctly registered with the authorities. During the course they will advise students on a whole variety of subjects and provide help in the event of any incidents that may arise.

There are two group representatives in Moscow who have responsibility for the centres in Moscow, Yaroslavl, Volgograd and Tver. They travel regularly to these other locations and provide assistance for students studying there.

In St Petersburg there are also two student representatives, one of whom looks after the students at the State University, and the other deals with students at the Benedict School and also the students in Petrozavodsk.

The student representatives are recent Russian graduates from British or US universities, who have as part of their course spent time studying in Russia. Many of them have studied on RLUS courses.

MEDICAL FACILITIES

RLUS has arrangements with clinics in Moscow and St Petersburg to provide medical assistance. Assistance can also be arranged in all of our provincial centres. All doctors speak English, most as a native language. The clinic has a database of doctors throughout Russia and can arrange medical treatment of an international standard. If necessary they will arrange with the student's insurance company for students to be repatriated.

INSURANCE

Students will not be allowed to attend a RLUS course without insurance.

PASTORAL VISITS

Twice a year, in November and April, the Operations Consultant, usually accompanied on one visit by the Chair of the RLUS executive committee, visits all of the RLUS centres and discusses the courses with the students. They then meet with the course directors and sort out any problems that may have arisen.

INFORMATION IS CORRECT AT TIME OF GOING TO PRESS. RLUS RESERVES THE RIGHT TO MAKE ALTERATIONS, IF THE SITUATION IN RUSSIA SHOULD SO DICTATE.
